An Artisan Approach To Production


Bass & Flinders Distillery was founded in 2009 by Wayne Klintworth and Bob Laing. An artisanal distillery, Bass & Flinders produce grape spirit using a traditional Alembic Pot Still to create a range of world‐class distillations including award winning gins, Australia's first grape based Vodka, Limoncello, Grappa and of course our outstanding five year aged spirit, Ochre.
During the period of establishing Bob & Wayne investigated the Mornington Peninsula and discovered many wineries but no distilleries. They saw this as an opportunity and created an artisanal distillery for the production of quality grape spirits.

In order to achieve their goals Wayne and Bob enlisted the assistance of an internationally recognised master distiller to mentor them in the art of distillation. They have also forged contacts with artisanal distilleries in France, USA & South Africa. These people all have one thing in common and that is their passion and understanding that to produce a unique high quality spirit there must be a respect for the intimate relationship between, grape production, wine making, distillation and the ageing processes.
Wayne and Bob shared this passion together until Bob's very sad and sudden passing in 2016. The business is now operated by Wayne and his daughter Holly Klintworth who are using Bob and Wayne's initial creative flair and vision as inspiration for the future of the business. Wayne and Holly are continuing to push limits and create products that are unique and extraordinary.

Small batches and slow distillation yields the highest quality spirits. Bass & Flinders distillers, Holly & Wayne Klintworth, distills in minimal quantities, ingredients are prepared by hand and botanicals are sourced by us and locally where possible.
We are very proud to be one of the few distilleries making our own base spirit. We hand-craft our spirit right here at the distillery from Shiraz grapes which is what gives our products a truly unique grape flavour profile. Such a dedicated approach to creating our own alcohol is rarely seen in the industry and offers you a first-hand experience from vine to bottle.
