Where cuisine reigns supreme, Master Distiller turns Master Chef to balance flavours of the Orient on a knife’s edge with this flavoursome foodies’ gin. A New World gin that takes inspiration from family heritage, highlighting Australia's love affair with exotic Eastern flavours and captures the essence of uniquely Australian native botanicals.

Be awash with a citrus tsunami of mouth-watering mandarin, Sichuan pepper, goji, black sesame seeds and jujubes. The roar of rich spices and flavours of the East, blend seamlessly with uniquely Australian accents of native strawberry gum, Wattleseed and kaffir lime to create a gin bursting with lifted aromatics and textural complexity.

Approachable and versatile, yet unlike any other gin. The rich flavours, layers and texture make it a fantastic gin for pairing with a broad array of cocktails as well as food. From the bright freshness of mandarin, the soft, round texture from the jujubes and sesame seed, through to the subtle tongue tingling spice of Sichuan pepper and nuttiness from the Wattleseed.

Our Head Distiller Holly's Chinese heritage inspired her to draw on Eastern flavours from the Chinese red date known as jujubes - grown by a farmer in Victoria, Sichuan pepper and a whole host of Eastern flavours such as goji berries and kaffir lime.

This gin is like the younger sister of our Gin 10 - it's spicy and racy, but a little sweeter than Gin 10 due to the mandarin. One of our selection of gins made to perfectly complement food, including Maritime Gin and Heartbreak Pinot Noir Gin, the Orient Gin is fantastic with all sorts of spicy Asian foods, including Thai and Vietnamese.

This gin was handcrafted from scratch using our ‘Méthode Eau de Vie’ - the art of distilling wine into spirit. This technique, unique to Bass & Flinders Distillery, delivers a smoother, fuller, richer flavour for your drinking pleasure.

Deliciously designed to enhance food pairings.

    Great flavours

Received the ‘Orient’ Gin as part of my first pack from Garden St Gin club and what a start! One of my favourite gins straight out of my first box.

We will be sure to be buying another bottle in the future & hope to visit when next on Mornington Peninsula for a masterclass.

    Unique and delicious

This gin is just so good with food. I personally love to drink Orient gin with Fever-Tree tonic water and a squeeze of fresh lemon. Also great with yuzu soda and lemon to retain all the amazing subtle botanicals in the gin. A must have!

    Gin fit for the Queen

Thanks to a fab friend a received a sample pack of 4 Gina from Bass & Flinders distillery as part of my Christmas present.

They were all very nice, but the Orient had my taste buds dancing and it is now my gin of choice.

    Best drop yet

My husband and I visited the distillery in Dromana today and tried all of the different Gin options and out of all of them the Orient was our clear favourite. It’s a wonderfully smooth drop with a refreshing mandarin flavour. We had ours mixed with a Mediterranean tonic water and it complemented it perfectly, we also tried it with a ginger ale however found the ginger took away from the delicate flavour. Definitely worth trying!

Bass & Flinders Distillery Méthode Eau de Vie spirits distillation process

unique distillation method

Méthode eau de vie

This gin was handcrafted from scratch using our 'Méthode Eau de Vie' - the art of distilling wine into spirit.

Here at Bass & Flinders we are dedicated to the true art of distillation. This means that rather than source neutral ethanol externally as the base spirit for this product, we choose to go the extra mile and distil our own premium grape-based spirit from scratch, in-house.

This technique unique to Bass & Flinders Distillery products we refer to as our Méthode Eau de Vie.

Bass & Flinders Distillery Méthode Eau de Vie spirits distillation process

The ultimate spirit

unique to us

Our process starts in the Victorian vineyards, where in conjunction with our winemaker, we have a say in the sugar levels, ripeness of fruit, PH and acidity - because all these elements - at the right levels - combine to create the perfect wine needed to distil into our grape spirit.

This grape spirit is called eau de vie - French for 'Water of Life'. This base spirit is the lifeline and foundation for every product we produce. It tells a story of the vintage and vineyards it was sourced from and delivers a smoother, fuller, richer base to deliver the ultimate gin experience.

Bass & Flinders Distillery Signature Selection Gins Mornington Peninsula

Bass & Flinders was one of the earlier established Australian distilleries, and the first distillery on the Mornington Peninsula. The inspiration for founding a distillery surrounded by vineyards was simple – stay true to our region through use of local produce wherever possible, and the distillation of grapes to produce fine spirits.
