A celebration of the diverse native botanicals found at the foot of Mt Wonga, the traditional naming of Arthur's Seat by the Bunurong and Boon Wurrung peoples. An ode to our coastal home where fresh salty air meets the hinterland, where drifting sand dunes gather and disperse along the shoreline. A place where sea breeze cools the vines and Australian bushland hugs our rocky shores. Our home. Made with locally foraged ingredients, drawing on the three facets that make the Mornington Peninsula unique - ocean, vineyards and bush.

A fresh savoury gin that tastes like a lick of salty sea air. A combination of citrus and herbaceous. Lemon myrtle, locally foraged saltbush, kelp and samphire combine with wattleseed, strawberry gum and currant bush for a juniper-forward, native Australian dry gin, made to perfectly complement food.

Approachable and versatile, yet extremely unique, Maritime Gin is one in our range of gins with a food matching focus including our Orient Gin and Heartbreak Pinot Noir Gin. Made to pair perfectly with a broad array of cocktails, Maritime Gin makes a great Martini, as well as a G&T with Fever-Tree Mediterranean tonic. Perfect with oysters and other seafood dishes, as well as savoury or citrus-fresh food pairings.

This gin was handcrafted from scratch using our ‘Méthode Eau de Vie’ - the art of distilling wine into spirit. This technique, unique to Bass & Flinders Distillery, delivers a smoother, fuller, richer flavour for your drinking pleasure.

Mornington Peninsula in a bottle. A lovely salty, savoury sensation to the taste buds that will have you transported beachside in a gin & tonic with Fever-tree Mediterranean tonic and a punch of citrus with a slice of lemon.

What to elevate your drink game? Try a hand at our Maritime Paloma with Pampelle, grapefruit and lime juice, sugar syrup topped with Fever-Tree Lime and Yuzu soda. Or keep it classic with a Dirty Martini, just a touch of vermouth and olive brine and stir.

Bass & Flinders Distillery Méthode Eau de Vie spirits distillation process

unique distillation method

Méthode eau de vie

This gin was handcrafted from scratch using our 'Méthode Eau de Vie' - the art of distilling wine into spirit.

Here at Bass & Flinders we are dedicated to the true art of distillation. This means that rather than source neutral ethanol externally as the base spirit for this product, we choose to go the extra mile and distil our own premium grape-based spirit from scratch, in-house.

This technique unique to Bass & Flinders Distillery products we refer to as our Méthode Eau de Vie.

Bass & Flinders Distillery Méthode Eau de Vie spirits distillation process

The ultimate spirit

unique to us

Our process starts in the Victorian vineyards, where in conjunction with our winemaker, we have a say in the sugar levels, ripeness of fruit, PH and acidity - because all these elements - at the right levels - combine to create the perfect wine needed to distil into our grape spirit.

This grape spirit is called eau de vie - French for 'Water of Life'. This base spirit is the lifeline and foundation for every product we produce. It tells a story of the vintage and vineyards it was sourced from and delivers a smoother, fuller, richer base to deliver the ultimate gin experience.

HANDCRAFTED ARTISANAL SPIRITS

Bass & Flinders was one of the earlier established Australian distilleries, and the first distillery on the Mornington Peninsula. The inspiration for founding a distillery surrounded by vineyards was simple – stay true to our region through use of local produce wherever possible, and the distillation of grapes to produce fine spirits.
